GASTROCNEMIUS
The gastrocnemius is a prominent two-headed muscle of the calf. The two heads have their origins on the medial and lateral condyles of the femur. This muscle inserts on the back of the calcaneus bone via the calcaneal tendon. Its chief action is plantarflexion of the foot. Since it crosses the knee joint, the gastrocnemius can also flex the knee.
