HISTOLOGY OF THE HAIR FOLLICLE
The hair follicle is an epidermal sheath that surrounds the hair. Sebaceous glands are usually atttached to the side of a follicle. Their oily secretion enters the follicle and follows it to the surface. The hair grows from the bulb, the swollen lower end of the follicle. The bulb is invested with blood vessels and nerves which are essential for the continued growth of the hair.
