Before you invest too much time in this course, make sure:

bullet

it will cover the type of things you want to learn

bullet

you have time and the interest to do the assignments that will be required

When I go away to a new place like a resort where I will be for a few days, after I drop my bags off, I explore.  I walk to the pool and see what the hours are, how many people are there, is there a hot tub?  Then I visit the bar and see if there is music, is it jumping? are there special drinks?  I walk all around investigating.  I want to learn what's available so I will be able to spend the rest of my time there doing the things I like best of the facilities the place has to offer.

You will spend the next 15 weeks, 7 to 8 hours a week here on this course.  So spend at between one and two hours looking around at this site:
bullet

Send an email to the prof .  That way I will be able to communicate with you.

bullet

Read the syllabus page and the pages it links to.

bullet

Review the calendar to see the assignments that will be required.

bullet

Think about the Assignments, each is fully described on its own page.  There are quite a few of them be because  learning comes from working on the computer to complete the assignments. It will take 3 to 4 hours above and beyond class time each week to complete them.  Over 75% (that's 3/4's) of the final grades are based on the professional and punctual completion of assignments.

bullet

Check out the Prof's background in-depth.

After reading at least 20 pages, take the Pre-course survey showing you have thought about this course and telling the prof a little about you.

then

Take the Learning Syles test (it should take 10 to 15 minutes to answer the 40 questions).

If you're curious you can see the prof's scores.

After printing the results for yourself and reading what they mean (4 pages)

Highlight the results from

Results for: your name

to GLO at the end of the 4th line

Paste them into an email and send them to me at

This is your course. If you want to change something, speak up. The course is evolving, if you find an interesting page, audio or video on the Internet, suggest it, you'll get credit and it will make the course ore interesting for all of us. If you're spending time on an assignment but you think you are not learning from that, tell me. If you are confused about something, seek help right away.

Do not get behind. Online courses are very easy to "put off" because you don't have to be somewhere at a certain time. So make yourself a schedule of "class time". Times when you will be doing CIS120 work.

Allocate sufficient time (at least 7 hours a week) and stick to your schedule..
