Contribute to the Web (Write a review)

Student Learning Outcomes:

	understand that the Internet has both professional pages and contributions from many Internet users
	show the veracity of the Internet information depends on who does the posting
	be able to locate and use sites that contain opinions posted by ordinary people
	be capable of making professional contributions to Internet sites

Procedure:

Post several reviews and/or events.

Events

Visit sites where the individuals suggest events for the calendar. Check out several events to see how it is done (lurk). Look for sumware's suggested events (coffe with conscience in Westfield) reviews at many of these sites.
Suggest events. Use a word processor so you can check spelling and then copy and paste it into the description box.)

Announce your suggested event (the URL) to your classmates on the WebBoard - remember a descriptive title.

Reviews

Visit sites where the reviews of individuals are posted. Read several to see how it is done (lurk). Look for sumware's reviews at many of these sites.
Write a review (do it in the a word processor so you can check spelling and then copy and paste it into the review box.)
The review should be at least 10 sentences. Be specific. Focus on one or two things.

Upload your review and then print a copy for your portfolio once it is posted. (Some sites check your review before adding it to their collection.) Announce it (the URL) to your classmates on the WebBoard and me via email.

Here are some places that I have found, but you are welcome (encouraged) to suggest others.

Political	Vote.com makes it easy to make your opinions known to your elected representative and to vote on all sort of things. It helps you learn about the issues of the day and if your opinions are shared by most or few others.
	Sign a Petition stating your view on 1,000's of important national issues...Add a comment too
Credit card	Credit cards are reviewed for rates and rebates and.. Use it to see if you've got the best deal.
Travel (Place/Hotel)	At Trip Advisor you can review hotels or destinations See my contribution for the Beach Comber Hotel in Grand Cayman as an example. Where to stay posts reviews of folk luck enough to visit the Caribbean and Hawaii.	I GoUGo has travel journals - you can post impressions of places, hotels, restaurant. Sec one I did about Los Angeles for and example. Virtual Tourist has whole Travelogs in mini web site but you can tell folks about your hometown
Restaurant	Zagat, Dinesite.com and dine.com gathers and posts restaurant reviews. See my review for the Magic Grill in Garwood for an example. Fodors posts hotel and restaurant reviews. These sites are great to check out BEFORE you spend your time and $$$. NY/NJ BYO Guide
Book	Amazon is the one that started this review idea. Half (now owned by eBay) has reviews too. (both are great places to buy and sell books, and other stuff) Barnes and Noble let you review books too. Best Book Buys posts reviews so you can determine which online vendor to purchase
many things	epinions.com has "epinions" on many products and places and suggestion where to buy too (the site posts and collect epinions of the merchants too!)
	BizRate Shopping Search lets you rate both the products (from books to clothing to electronics) and the vendors

Once you have posted your review(s), post its URL on the Forum. It may take a while for the review to be posted (most sites have a human check it out before they put it up)

Do one review for up to 4 points (C work) , 2 for a 7 points (B work), 3 for 10 (A work). More extensive reviews get more point. VirtualTourist counts for 2 reviews. Each review should be at a different site.

Remember this experience and comment about it in your paper.
