Procedure:

There are many places that provide hosting for free, but most of them make "charge" by displaying advertising on the site, restricting the space for user content and annoying site visitors. 

Google Sites:

  1. has no advertising (so far)

  2. is relative easy to use (see Google sites help and brief instructions below)

  3. permit the choice of making the site visible to the world or selective email addresses

Follow the steps below to create a simple site of Google Sites:

If you have a Google account (which may or may not be based on a gmail.com email)   

If you do not have a Google account sign up for one:

Sign up for Sites

  1. Complete the form with your email and password - write these down - you must remember them
  2. Open you email and confirm that the email you supplied is valid

Once you have a Google Account Click  Create Site 

Your website address will be sites.google.com/sites/your-login-name so make your-site-name as short and memorable as possible.

Note that every decision about the site (layout, sharable, etc.) except the your-site name, which is part of the URL, web address (http://sites.google.com/sites/your-site-name) can be changed.  Choose that your-site-name carefully, it should be short and relatively easy to remember.

Overview

  1. Edit your home page with a table (2 columns by 2 or more rows) containing

    bulleta YouTube Video
    bulletseveral gadgets
  2. Create a Portfolio Page and upload all your work onto that page

  3. Create a Resume page as a web page with a copy of your resume from the Microsoft Word document and as an attached pdf

  4. Share your site

Edit your home page

bulletchange the look  (on top right)
bulletchange the layout
bulletadd a link to some page(s) on the web that you like
bulletprovide a graphic link for folk to email you (animated email graphics)
bulletadd a gadget (see lower right)
bulletsave your work (on top right)
bulletpreview your work & close the preview window

Create a Portfolio page

bulletcreate a page called My portfolio or CIS100 work or what ever.

bulletAdd files and give each a good "File description"
bulletclick on Your files (2nd on the left)
bulletclick on Browse
bulletlocate the file (on M: at school. probably, on C:MyDocuments at home)
bulletclick on OK
bulletMove to (click button on top) into folders

bulletWord Processing
bulletSpreadsheets
bulletAccess Reports
bulletProduct Comparison presentation
bulletQuick Checks
bulletQuizzes
bulletSAM Projects
bulletSAM Report
bulletAdd the Portfolio page to the Navigation (by editing the sidebar)

Create a Resume page

bulletsince the world can see your site, change your address to 123 Main Street, you should keep the city and state. 
Change your phone to (123) 555-1212.  Leave your email so folks can get in touch with you.
bulletCopy and Paste your Word resume
bulletSave your Word  format resume to a pdf for that it cannot be change.  Upload it as an attachment to the Resume page.
bulletMake your email into a clickable link
bulletAdd the Resume page to the Navigation

Share your site with me and others as viewers (they can only look, or the world, if they find it).  Share it with some folk as collaborators who can add comments, attachments and change content.

bulletwith Your pages highlighted on the left click on your home page
bulletimportant - put a link from the home page to this page by Clicking on "Back to Site Manager
bulletclick on the icon for your Home page to open it
bulletclick on Link
bullettype "my 2nd page" or whatever better title you want to be the link
bulletwith your pages highlighted on the left click on the title of your second page

Add some pictures

bulletclick where you want the image
bulletif the image is on the web
bulletright click on it
bulletclick Save Picture As
bulletput it on M: at school or C:\My Document/My Pictures at home
bulletonce the picture is on a local disk
bulletclick on Image (on the left)
bulletbrowse to the picture
bulletsend me an email with the URL http://sites.google.com/your-site-name
