After completing this assignment, the student will be able to:
bulletsee a lasting record of the work that was competed, demonstrating the computer application software skills learned in detail
bulletshare the material with others, including current and potential employers, to prove mastery of important computer concepts and skills
bulletrecognize the growth and learning that has been accomplished through the term
bulletdemonstrate to the instructor the growth and learning that the student has achieved through the term
bullethave a paper and/or online record
bulletpaper: organize the work with a cover page and detailed table of contents for future reference
bulletonline portfolio that can be accessed by any (or select) internet user(s)

Procedure:

The portfolio can be either be submitted
bulleton paper in a folder or notebook
or
bulletput it a portfolio page on your web site
or
bulletthe best is to put all the work both places. 
(It is a small expenditure of time that will pay itself back over and over)

Don't wait until the end of the term! As the term progresses, save complete/graded assignments. Also accumulate them on a Portfolio page on your personal Web site.

On your web site

bulletCreate a Home page with the same things as a paper cover page and maybe more
bulletyour full name
bulletthe course title (Introduction to Computer Applications)
bulletthe date (Spring 2009 or May 2009)
bulletyour photo of you or a interesting computer related clipart
bulletUnion County College

bullet Create a Resume page
bulletsince the world can see your site, either delete your street address or change it to something obviously fictional like 123 Unreal Street, you should keep the correct city, state and zip. 
Change your phone to (123) 555-1212.  Leave your email so folks can get in touch with you.

bulletMake your email into a clickable link
bulletCreate a Portfolio page
bulletcreate a page called My portfolio or CIS100 work or what ever.

bulletAdd files and for each give a 5 or 6 word good "File description" (describe it and what you learned from doing it)
bulletclick on Your files (2nd on the left)
bulletclick on Browse
bulletlocate the file (on M: at school. probably, on MyDocuments at home or your flash drive)
bulletclick on OK
bulletorganize your work into Word Processing, Database (Access), Spreadsheet (Excel), SAM Projects, Practical PC end of chapter Quick Checks...using Move to (on top of Page)

On paper

In the second to last (penultimate) week of the term:

bulletcreate the cover page print and organize the pages
bulletcreate a detailed table of contents separated by software application and listing each paper
bulletput your resume as the first ting since that is what most folks are most interested in
bulletput the whole thing in a folder (optionally 3 hole punched)
bulletsubmit a portfolio of the term's work for review and a grade

Your portfolio is yours to keep as a permanent record and something to show to potential employers, and even current employers, to demonstrate proof of your knowledge of important computer application software The cover sheet for a paper portfolio should contain:
bulletyour full name
bulletthe course title (Introduction to Computer Applications)
bulletthe date (Fall 2009 or December 2009)
bulletyour photo of you or a interesting computer related clipart
bulletUnion County College
bulletProfessor Maureen Greenbaum (optional and in a small font)
Both the paper and the online Table of Contents should
bullet list each item in the portfolio (grouped by type of work: Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Quizzes, SAM, Internet, Quick Checks etc)). 
There should be about 6 to 8 sections and about 25 items detailed.

bulletemail a list (Sender, date & subject) of the correspondence (saved-inbox and sent mail) showing how much of the course was done on the web
bulletQuizzes - list each with its topic
bulletText End of Chapter Exercises (put these after the creative work you have done)
The paper portfolio could contain:
bulletoptionally dividers with the title of each section (word processing, spreadsheet, etc)
bulletcontain both independent work and class work, graded and non-graded practice items
bulletinclude either the graded assignment with green grading marks or a clean copy or both (with the clean copy first)
bulletoptionally, a printout of the assignments and test pages from the course web site to show the instructions that were followed to produce the included work

The typical portfolio is usually over 40 pages.  See printing hints.

Do NOT put your papers in those cellophane protectors (the beauty of computer work is never final, it  that it can always be change, improved!
