Procedure:

  1. Book cover image for Microsoft Office 2007: Brief Concepts and TechniquesRead Chapter 2 of the Office 2007 Text.  This explains in detail how to properly create a research paper.
  2. If you do not know how to write a proper term or research paper, read sites that give guidelines such as

bullet Personal Pronouns: All formal papers should be written solely in the third person (he, she, it). The only section of the paper in which you may do otherwise is the conclusion where first person (I) is allowed. The use of second person (you) should never be used because you (the writer) would be making assumptions about the reader that may not be true.
bullet Conversational Wording: The paper should be written in a formal style. Conversational text is not appropriate. Example:
bulletWell, the reason is .......Well is not appropriate.
bulletThe answer is, you see ...You see is not appropriate.
bulletSo, computers are ..........So is not appropriate.
bullet A thesis statement is a sentence that makes an assertion about a topic and predicts how the topic will be developed. It does not simply announce a topic: it says something about the topic.
Wrong: In this paper, I will discuss how ABC……..
OK: ABC has made a significant impact on the teenage population due to its . . .
  3. Select a topic for a 2 to 4 page paper.  Hopefully you will be taking another class this term that requires a research paper.  Then this assignment can utilize most, if not all, of that effort.  If not, see me individually, and we can find an internet related topic that interests you such as any of the Issues in the Practical PC text.
  4. Submit a short (2 or 3 sentence) plan that
    bulletexplains the topic
bulletto which professor and which course it will be submitted and
when that it is to be turned in to that professor
bulletthe sources that will be used
  5. Do the research, which must include 5 sources: at least one should be a book, one a paper magazine and the rest can be the Internet pages.
  6. Produce your paper which has
    bulleta proper cover page
bullet3 (or more) properly formatted footnotes (<-- read this important link)
    bullet

and a Bibliography in MLA format that has been created by Word
    using the Reference Ribbon

    bullet

    Insert Citation

    bulletManage Sources Ribbon
    bulletStyle
    bulletBibliography
    Word 2007 Reference Ribbon
