The Union County College Mission and Philosophy states

The College strives to promote in students a sense of responsibility for their own development and an understanding of their obligations as members of a democratic society.  The college fosters in students the desire to learn, the ability to think clearly and express themselves effectively, the habit of analytical and reflective thought, and awareness of themselves, their heritage, other cultures, and their environment.

After completing  CIS100 - Introduction to Computer Applications the student should be able to:

bulletSelect the appropriate software application or suite of applications (word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation or internet) to apply to a problem
bulletUse the basic features of Windows Operating System and Computer Application software.
Specifically be able to use the most common computer application software

bulletMicrosoft Windows for File access
bulletMicrosoft Word for Word Processing
bulletMicrosoft Excel for Spreadsheet and Charting
bulletMicrosoft Access for Database
bulletMicrosoft PowerPoint for Presentation
bulletMicrosoft Internet Explorer for Internet
bulletLocate and use sufficient and appropriate resources to learn how to apply computer application software features specifically using the software's help facility and online tutorials and reference.
bulletUse instructional resources to solve problems
bulletUnderstand of basic computer vocabulary and technology or know where to lookup definitions
bulletAnalyze a problems and then select the appropriate features of the software required to solve the problem
bulletFollow instructions precisely when using computer software features
bulletUnderstand that computers only follow instructions and if given incorrect instructions will follow them producing invalid result and thus all work must be proofed.

Create a Microsoft Access database that includes use of the following features:

bullet design a table using the table wizard and then use design view to add, delete or reorder fields and to modify their type or length. 
bullet enter data and navigate in both datasheet and form view
bullet create a form using the form wizard
bullet understand the difference between form design and form entry and what is entered/modified with each
bullet modify the format of forms (change field sizes, change label and field appearance: colors, borders and effects)
bullet create a report using the wizard that groups data with subtotals
