The Union County College Mission and Philosophy

The College strives to promote in students a sense of
responsibility for their own development and an understanding of their
obligations as members of a democratic society. The college
fosters in students the desire to learn, the ability to think
clearly and express themselves effectively, the habit of
analytical and reflective thought, and awareness of themselves,

Thus, assignments are constructed to improve and assessment is
designed to measure the improvement in a student's:

Goal I is to provide courses that enable students to develop:

After completing CIS100 - Introduction to Computer Applications the
student should be able to:
 | Select the appropriate software
application or suite of applications (word processing, spreadsheet,
database, presentation or internet) to apply to a problem |
 | Use the basic features of Windows
Operating System and Computer Application software.
Specifically be able to use the most
common computer application software

 | Locate and use sufficient and appropriate resources to learn how to apply computer application
software features specifically using the software's help facility and online tutorials and reference. |
 | Use instructional resources to solve
problems |
 | Understand of basic computer vocabulary and technology
or know where to lookup definitions |
 | Analyze a problems and then select the
appropriate features of the software required to solve the problem |
 | Follow instructions precisely when using
computer software features |
 | Understand that computers only follow
instructions and if given incorrect instructions will follow them
producing invalid result and thus all work must be proofed. |
 | Communicate results on paper and on the
internet in a highly useable format. |
