Making your PowerPoint Presentations Memorable

They’re fun to watch so they involve students in the learning! Learn about choosing animated clip art and drawing caption bubbles. Make the most of page transitions and object animation. Learn to use unknown themes from the web. Link to web sites and make a little noise. Create a web version that can be viewed without PowerPoint.

Student Learning Outcomes:

The student will be able to:
bulletSelect relevant animated clip art
bullet Draw caption bubble, insert text and vary text background and caption order color.
bulletUse page transitions and object animation
bulletFind and apply interesting themes
bullet Create hyperlinks from text and graphics so to being the web into the presentation
bulletAdd sounds and music

 Select relevant animated clip art

bulletInset menu, Picture, Clipart
bulletType subject desired under Search for
bulletuncheck all but clipart under Results should be:
bulletclick Go
bulletSelect, by clicking any clip that has a gold star lower right corner

 

Draw caption bubble, insert text and vary text background and caption order color.

bulletBe sure Drawing Toolbar is visible (usually it's on the bottom of the screen) - if not View menu, Toolbars, Drawing
bulletClick on the down arrow to the right of the word Autoshapes

Cloud Callout: Fun!
Click on callouts and the shape you like
bulletHold the mouse button down and drag open the callout shape
bulletLet go when it's the size you want; don't worry you can always make it bigger or smaller
bulletType some words into the box
bulletSelect words and change the font using the Format menu and Font
bulletDrag the yellow dot at the end to where you want it (coming out of the persons head or mouth)
bulletTilt using green
bulletUse the Paint bucket in the Drawing toolbar to change the background color
bulletUse the Paint brush to change the border color
bulletUse the horizontal lines icon to change the border width
bulletuse the dotted horizontal lines to change the border style
bulletUse the last 2 green square icons to add a shadow or 3-d to the callout
bulletBe Brave - remember Undo is just a click away!
bulletBecause this is visual people will remember these words better than any other words on the slide

Use page transitions and object animation

bulletPage transitions
bulletSlide Show menu
bulletSelect one
bulletSlow it down
bulletObject Animation - will appear after non-animated - one at a time after a click
  1. Click on a graph or select some text to animate
  2. Slide Show menu
  3. Custom Animation
  4. Add Effect
  5. Entrance
  6. More Effect
  7. Chose one
  8. Slow it down?
  9. Choose a different one if you want
  10. Click on a different graphic or text and perform steps 4 to 9 again
  11. Reorder objects appearance if you want

Find and apply interesting themes

Make your presentation different.  Use a template that most folk have not seen and download it from:

Free PowerPoint templates, backgrounds, other graphics for business and educational use!

 

Create hyperlinks from text and graphics so to being the web into the presentation

  1. In the PowerPoint window, select the graphic (see handles) or text
  2. Select Insert menu Hyperlink (or click the Hyperlink icon on the toolbar, a globe with a paperclip)
    Insert     Menu     Hyperlink
  3. Clear out the Address field if there is something there
  4. In the Internet window, highlight the site address, its URL
  5. Copy it to the clipboard (point at it, right click on the URL to get the short menu, select Copy to copy the URL to the Clipboard
  6. Return to the PowerPoint window
  7. The URL should appear; if not paste it from the clipboard (Ctrl +V).
  8. Close the dialog box.

 Add sounds and music

But don't overdo it ...
