Objective:

To learn and practice creating forms from database tables and queries.  

Assignment:

Create 2 or more forms that will permit users to enter data and view data.  One of the forms must have subforms.

bulletStudy 3 screen pictures, chose "create a query", read about select and parameter queries.

bulletlook at Library example in Prof's directory on virtual disk drive.  Study Form view, switch to Design view

Create 2 or more forms, one or more must have one or more subforms.

Procedure:

  1. Learn about forms
  2. Create 3 forms, one or more must have one or more subforms.
    bulletbe sure the name, type and length of the attributes, which are primary key and foreign key, are exactly the same
    bulletchoose "Create form using wizard"
    bulletselect one of the tables and choose all the attributes using >> button.  Remove any attributes that you don't want by highlighting them and using the < button in the middle
    bulletselect another table and choose all the attributes using >> button.  Remove any attributes that you don't want by highlighting then and using the < button in the middle.  Remove the either the primary key or foreign key since they are the same.
    bulletselect a third table and choose all the attributes using >> button.  Remove any you don't want by highlighting then and using the < button in the middle.  Remove the either the primary key or foreign key when they are the same (you will notice because they have the same name and thus have been qualified by the table name)
  3. Go on to the next step.  Think about how the data is to be viewed (you might want to do it one way and then do it again the other)
  4. Choose your "look" and name your form.
  5. Provide a description for your form by right clicking its name in Database window, selecting Properties and typing about 5 to 10 words that describe the form
  6. Post your database MDB file in your directory on your directory on the virtual disk drive.
  7. Create a new thread  message in the Forms topic on the Bulletin Board with 1 or 2 sentences describing your work that is to be reviewed.
  8. Submit for assignment for feedback from Prof and first draft grade
  9. Check if your teammates or other class members have posted a Forms is on their Database
    bulletIf so download them
    bulletReview them
    bulletReply to their Post on the Bulletin Board with suggestions for improving their forms
    bulletImitate good ideas in your forms
  10. Look for suggestions to your Forms
    bulletincorporate suggestions into your design and upload to your directory on the virtual disk drive and again then note improvement have been by replying to your original Forms post on Bulletin Board or
    bulletpost reasons you think suggestions won't work by replying to your original Forms post on Bulletin Board 
  11. Continue to do step 5 and 6.
  12. Submit for assignment for final grade
