Objective:
To create queries (user views) so that input forms and output
reports can be more easily implemented.
Assignment:
 | Learn about Access queries:

 | Check that your description of requirements includes 5 to 10 questions that the users
could pose that require data from the database
|
 | Create and save 3 or more queries or different types
|
 | Post, review work of others, incorporate suggestion of others in our
database

 | use online MS Access help:
 | type "Query Overview" into Answer Wizard
|
 | select "Queries: What they are and how they work",
|
 | study 3

 | read about select and
parameter queries.

Make sure your database description has 5 or more questions that the user
will as of the database. These must include:
 | selecting only a subset to records (for example using the Library
DB, all patrons who live in Elizabeth or Linden)
|
 | selecting only a subset to records when the criteria isn't known
until the query is run (for example, using the Library DB, all books by an
author that the user will enter when he/she makes the request)
|
 | data from two or more tables. (for example using the Library DB,
patrons and all their loans)
|
 | subtotals and totals
|
Use MS Access to create queries for your database.
 | join two or more tables with inner and outer joins (see glossary for explanation,
right click on line that connects tables to specify join type)
|
 | with criteria :
 | exact match
|
 | wild card
|
 | parameter( specify which rows will be selected at runtime.)
|
 | numbers between certain values
|
|
Be sure to document by giving descriptions to the queries (right click on
their names in database object view, select properties)
Save 3 or more queries for later use so the basis of forms and/or reports
Compact your database and upload the MDB your
virtual
drive and post a short description of what you did (what others should
look at) on the Bulletin
Board.
When it is posted, download and critique the queries of
teammates and other class members.
Respond to your critiques.
Procedure:
- Create three or more different types of queries per details above
- Post your database on your virtual
drive.
- Create a new thread by post a message in the Queries topic on the
Bulletin
Board that your work is ready to be reviewed.
- Check if your teammates or other class members have posted Queries to
their Database.
 | If so, download them

 | Review them

 | Post suggestions as Replies
to their post.

Look for suggestions to your Queries
 | incorporate suggestions into your design and upload to your directory on the
virtual
drive. again
then note improvement on Bulletin Board or
|
 | post reasons you think suggestions won't work
|
Continue to do step 4 and 5.
