Message or Bulletin Board
Communicating on the Message Board /Forum/Bulletin Board and Using a Virtual Hard Disk (VHH) to Hold Databases and Other Large Files

Home

The heart of this course is the Message Board (also referred to a the Bulletin Board or Forum).  It is a substitute for class discussion.  It is the way you submit your work both to the Prof for grading, but more importantly to your teammates and classmates for review and suggestions.

For each assignment is to

  1. upload your solutions to that phase of your database design to the Virtual Hard Drive (VHD). Start a new thread (Compose Message) to post a brief (5 or so sentence) summary on the Message Board under the proper topic.  Make the subject of your message (thread) your-name and your database (for Example Rose's Real Estate or Jane's Accounts Payable).

  2. download the solutions of other students from the VHD and post a critique on the message board as a reply to their message (thread)

  3. improve your work based upon feedback, upload the improved version, and post your own reply to your thread

  4. improve your work by incorporating good ideas gleaned from the work of teammates and other  classmates, upload the improved version, and post your own reply to your thread

Students will be expected to visit the message board a minimum of four times a week.  More often would be better. The professor will try to get there daily and many days, twice a day.

 Posting Large Files

It would be great if we could attach databases and drawing files to message board posts.  Unfortunately the large size of these files and space allotted to the course prohibits that.  Thus, students will have to upload their files to sites that give out free space. Fortunately there are hundreds of these sites around.

Instructions for using the Virtual Hard Disk Space provide by Yahoo Briefcase.
