Each student should sign up for a Yahoo briefcase by the second week of class.

  1. Get a Briefcase: Using your browser Go to Briefcase.yahoo.com  and either

    sign in to Yahoo with your Yahoo id if you have one

    bullet

    signup for a Yahoo id if you don't

  2. Enter the Confirmation code, a captcha) which is a way of preventing computers from signing up for free disk space
    (Yahoo is going to give you 30 megabytes) 
    Leave My Documents checked and the "By default" alone.  Click Submit.

 

Once you submit your Confirmation code you get a screen like this

  1. List the folders in your briefcase by Clicking on the hyperlink to Your Briefcase address: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/sumware_ucc

  2. Make a new folder by Clicking on Create Folder

  3. Create a folder to share with me and fellow students:

    enter the  folder name “CIS100”

    bullet

    click the Friend radio button  Be Sure to make the dot that is to the left of the word Friends green!!!!
    Read what it says for Public (everyone can access this folder.)
        Note: The free service on Yahoo! Briefcase does not allow public sharing of files/full-size images.

    bullet

    type sumware in the box to give the prof permission to read files put into that folder.
    You may put other YahooID's there now or later. 

Once you create one folder your screen will look like 

    All Folders  | File Folders
    Add File  -  Create Folder
       
    Check All - Clear All

  1. Edit Folder Properties if you need to.  You can Change the Folder's name or permission by clicking on the pencil under Edit
  2. Use Yahoo help: Spend some time perusing the excellent Help Yahoo provides.
  3. Notice there is a Help Link on the Upper Right that brings up a page with most of your questions answered

Since I access the course Yahoo Briefcase VERY frequently, I put it onto my Links toolbar by dragging in the Address to the Links Toolbar and right clicking it and renaming it to s much shorter (2 or 3 character) name.

    Now you can Add files to either folder.
