Student Learning Outcomes:

After completing this assignment, the student will be able to:

bullet

see a lasting record of the work that was competed, demonstrating in detail computer application software skills learned

bullet

share their material with others, including current and potential employers, to prove mastery of important computer concepts and skills

bullet

recognize the growth and learning that has been accomplished through the term

bullet

demonstrate to the instructor the growth and learning that the student has achieved through the term

bullet

organize their work with a cover page and detailed table of contents for future reference

bullet

optionally, create an online portfolio that can be accessed by any internet user

Procedure:

As the term progresses, save complete/graded assignments.
(Also accumulate them on a Portfolio page on your personal Web site).
Be sure to give
each file a very descriptive name.

In the second to last week of the term:

bulletcreate the cover page print and organize the pages
bulletcreate a detailed table of contents separated by software application and listing each paper
bulletput the whole thing in a folder (optionally 3 hole punched)
bulletsubmit a portfolio of the term's work for review and a grade
but the portfolio is yours to keep as a permanent record and something to show to potential employers and even current employers to demonstrate proof of your knowledge of import computer application software

The cover sheet for a paper portfolio should contain:

bullet

your full name

bullet

the course title (Introduction to Computer Applications)

bullet

the date (Spring 2008 or May 2008)

bullet

your photo or a interesting computer related clipart

bullet

Union County College

Both the paper and the online Table of Contents should

list each item in the portfolio (grouped by type of work). 
There should be about 5 or 6 sections and about 25 items detailed.

Internet assignments
bulletprint all the pages/screens from your Google sites web site
bulletemail a list (Sender, date & subject) of the correspondence (saved-inbox and sent mail) showing how much of the course was done on the web

bulletQuizzes - list each with its topic
bulletText End of Chapter Exercises (put these after the creative work you have done)

The paper portfolio could contain:

bullet

optionally dividers with the title of each section (word processing, spreadsheet, etc)

bullet

contain both independent work and class work, graded and non-graded practice items

bullet

include either the graded assignment with green grading marks or a clean copy or both (with the clean copy first)

bullet

optionally a printout of the assignment and test pages from the course web site

The typical portfolio is over 40 pages.  See printing hints.

Do NOT put your papers in those cellophane protectors (the beauty of computer work is never final, it  that it can always be change, improved!
