ACCOUNTING (7th Edition). Chapters 12-24 or more, Student CDROM; Horngren and Harrison. Prentice Hall, 2005.  Chapter 11 provided by the professor.

Working Papers are optional.

Access code for My Accounting Lab is optional, but can be purchased on the Internet.

A shrink wrapped package of the 7th Edition text and My Accounting Lab Access Code can only be purchased from the Union County College Cranford Bookstore (908)709-7619.  These can be purchased and mailed from the UCC Cranford Bookstore by the use of a major credit card.                  

CATALOG DESCRIPTION:  

A continuation of ACC-103; topics include accounting for current liabilities; investment; preparation, interpretation and evaluation of financial statements and reports; comparison of corporation and partnership accounting; Managerial Accounting.

OBJECTIVES:

 At the completion of the course, the student will be able to:  

1.    Enhance communication skills by completing oral and written exercises. 

2.    Demonstrate critical thinking and decision-making skills by completing case studies, exercises, and problems. 

3.    Gain insights into ethical problems in accounting. 

4.    Develop a real-world view of accounting through "Accounting in Action" vignettes on "Business Insight," "International Insight," and "Ethics" Insight. 

5.    Understand that accounting principles and assumptions are not the same worldwide and how various cultures affect accounting financial reporting.

6.    Become more computer literate than before taking this course.

7.    Access information from the Internet. 

8.    Demonstrate the ability to use the Internet for research purposes and to write coherent and readable paragraphs. 

GRADING: 

Final Grading - 90-100, A; 87-89, B+; 80-86, B; 77-79, C+; 70-76, C; 67-69, D+; 60-66, D; Below 60, F. 

Your final grade will be determined as follows:

 

Proctored Tests 10%
On-line Tests 40%
On-line Class Discussion 30%
Chapter Problems 10%
Internet Exercise 10%
Total 100%

There will be two proctored exams given. These can be taken on the UCC Cranford Campus on a scheduled date or, by arrangements with the professor, on another date in the Assessment Center. If the student cannot come to the UCC Cranford Campus, arrangements can be made to forward the tests to a proctor arranged for by the student and agreed on by the professor at another location.  Most colleges have a testing center.  These should be used if possible.    

POLICIES AND ASSIGNMENTS: 

1.   You are expected to complete the reading assignment in the text. 

2.   Lecture notes should be read and readiness assessment quizzes and quizzes to test your understanding should be completed.  These can be found on WebCT, PHReenforcer (program on CDROM), and the Companion Website accessed from WebCT.

3.  Answer questions in the Discussion Area.  Be sure to react to one other student's reply.   These will count 30% of your grade.

4.     The "Lecture homework assignments" in WebCT for each assigned chapter are to be completed for your information.  Answers will be provided.  Specific problems assigned by the professor are found by clicking Assignments and Testing Information on the Home Page of WebCT.  They can be completed electronically through the use of Electronic Working Papers, Excel Spreadsheets, or Word documents and forwarded to the professor as attachments to the E-mail provided in the WebCT.  They can also be completed manually using the working papers and can be faxed, scanned and attached to an email, hand delivered, or mailed.  

5.   Internet exercises are to be completed and sent to the professor as attachments or as a copy and paste to the email in WebCT. 

6.    An on-line chapter test should be taken during the semester.  See the Calendar for guidance as to dates. Documentation of a disability will be required for any student needing more time than given.  

7.    Students are encouraged to ask questions on any matters that are not clear to them.  

8.    You are expected to participate in group activities using  the discussion, chat rooms, e-mail, instant messaging,or whatever means of communication is required between you, your professor, and your classmates.
