TELECOURSE INFORMATION SHEET

If you are a motivated, independent learner who can pace herself/himself and who can communicate with the teacher and with other students through distance modes, a telecourse can help you to manage your schedule while earning a degree.

Telecourses allow students to work at home with a minimum amount of direct physical contact with the campus.  Most of the content of the course is taught on a series of video-cassettes which are correlated with a textbook and usually with a guidebook.  Faculty members stay in touch with students by mail, e-mail, telephone, fax, and other distance communication modes.  For some classes there is an optional or required orientation meeting of everyone enrolled in the telecourse.  For some classes, instructors may schedule periodic class meetings.  If you have not been contacted by the Instructor by the first day of class, you should contact the instructor at Rhenderson@ucc.edu or 908-497-4271.

In order to take a telecourse, you need to register for the telecourse through the College's registration process.  Then you need to either go to the Student Accounts Office on the Cranford, Elizabeth, or Plainfield campuses or call, e-mail, or fax the Student Accounts Office to request a credit card authorization form.   There is a $50.00 deposit for the set of videocassettes.  Any other course expenses will be announced by your instructor.  Once you have paid the deposit for the video tapes, go to the Media Center in Cranford to pick up the video tapes or request that the Media Center mail the tapes to your address (in this case, there will be an additional mailing charge).  The name and the telephone number of the instructor is provided at this time.  When videocassettes and/or any other leased course materials are returned at the end of the term, the money is refunded within ten (10) working days.   The Student Accounts telephone number is (908) 709-7061, the fax number is (908) 497-0928 and the e-mail address is quiles@ucc.edu or bquiling@ucc.edu. The Media Center can be reached at (908) 709-7080 or via e-mail at pgallagher@ucc.edu .   Books are available in the Cranford campus bookstore or may be ordered from the bookstore by calling (908) 709-7619 or  (908) 709-7485.  Books can be ordered on the Internet.  Visit www.uccbookstore.com and order your textbooks through ecampus.com.    Students may request books/workbooks to be mailed.  All major credit cards are accepted.

Telecourses require more reading and study than most other courses, and students must work independently.  Telecourses are not a way to get an "easy" course.   Click on the telecourse quiz,   "Are telecourses for you?" to assess how well telecourses will fit your needs.
