What is the Honors Studies Program?

Honors Studies presents a unique opportunity for UCC's best students to continue to pursue their studies in a more personal, creative, intellectually challenging and non-traditional setting.The Honors Studies Program's courses encourage critical thinking, collaborative work, self-directed study, and the development of cross-cultural and multidisciplinary perspectives. Honors Studies was founded on the belief that these skills and this approach to life are essential not only for future academic and professional success, but for a more fulfilling personal life as well.

Honors Studies gives you the opportunity to:

  • Take intellectually challenging and personally enriching courses in a dynamic seminar setting (HRS 103 and HRS 104) that puts you at the center of the classroom and gives you greater control over your own learning. Topics include:

    A Skeptical View of the Paranormal, Gender and Sexuality, Global Issues, World Film, Biomedical Ethics, Religious Fundamentalism, Blogging the 2008 Election, Race and Ethinicity in American Culture, Poverty at Home and Abroad: Causes Consquences and Possible Solutions.

  • Build friendships with other bright, motivated, and talented students who are passionate about their education.
  • Shape coursework to your own interests in Honors Seminars (HRS 103 and HRS 104), Honors Independent Studies (HRS 203 and HRS 204) and Special Honors Projects.
  • Strengthen your college transcript and increase your transfer and scholarship opportunities by showing four-year colleges and universities how you distinguished yourself from your peers at UCC.Satisfy Social Science and Humanities electives for your degree requirements. Take courses in place of your degree requirements.
  • Receive partial or full tuition remission for any semester in which you take an Honors course in short, better prepare yourself for future academic and professional success.
