December 5 Workshop: Writing About Survival

The Professional Development Committee and The New York Times will offer  a workshop by Dr. Shirley Wachtel, who has developed a special workshop for community colleges based on her award-winning lessons and classThe Story of Blima: A Holocaust Survivorroom methods for her course English II: Writing About Survival. 

Dr. Wachtel teaches at Middlesex County College in Edison, NJ.  During this interactive workshop, Dr. Wachtel will present her innovative pedagogy for using The New York Times in the classroom along with actual student assignments from the course and her book entitled The Story of Blima-A Holocaust Survivor.

Faculty will learn how to intensify learning and improve critical thinking skills by using diverse sources, including The New York Times.  The workshop is meant to provide inspiration and ideas as well as sharing from the audience.

The New York Times is pleased to offer this outstanding workshop to New Jersey community as part of our commitment to providing additional benefits to community college faculty. 

Each participant will receive a copy of Dr Wachtel’s book The Story of Blima-A Holocaust Survivor.
