The Web is We: Can Blogs and Wikis, Social Networks and
Open Source, Podcasts and RSS Revolutionize Higher Ed?
In the past five years, the web has witnessed a
seismic shift in its use. This shift, sometimes called
Web 2.0, is characterized by an architecture of
participation and applications that emphasize collaboration,
social networking, and shared ownership of content.
Many of us are familiar with the next generation of online
resources but have yet to ask how these tools might shape
our teaching and learning. How can educators integrate wikis
and blogs into their committee work and their classrooms?
How might students apply social networking skills into their
hybrid or fully online distance education classes?
Most importantly: Why would faculty, staff, and students
want to embrace the notion that “the web is we”? This
presentation will provide a brief overview of the history of
the web and explore how and why educators might integrate
various Web 2.0 applications into their professional lives. |

- Critical thinking skills and the web:
Debby Kemp-Jackson & Mahua De
Technology is
increasingly becoming an important element in the
language classroom . Our students, too, appear very
comfortable using different aspects of technology
like the PowerPoint, the Internet, and so on. Yet,
this ease of use does not translate to appropriate
use nor does it indicate the use of critical
thinking skills. In this workshop, we will discuss
some activities that will help our students to use
the Internet more effectively - Faculty Webpage Part 2 of 2:
Vince Tanzi
Planning and creating a web site using FrontPage.
