OVERCOMING
HATRED/
Creating
Community
is an annual series of special events, begun in 2001, which
are dedicated to creating a more civil society through an
understanding of the roots of hatred. By
focusing on man’s inhumanity to man, these events seek to provide a reminder of what has happened in the past, examine the causes of hatred, and
give participants a chance to reflect on how you can
help to build a better community.
During the first six years
of this program,
many of the events in the OVERCOMING
HATRED/
Creating
Community
program have focused on the Holocaust. The
Holocaust refers to the effort by the National Socialist (Nazi) Government of
Germany between 1933 and 1945 to exterminate the Jewish people.
