You just took the Self-Assessment Quiz on Time Management. You learned
if you use your time effectively
or if you can't find enough time in the day for everything. There are some
challenges that you might have to face in combining school, work, and family
responsibilities. How can you manage your time so that you have time for all
of your responsibilities and also for relaxing?
1. Go to

spend you time. Do you have enough hours in the day for all of your
activities? If not, you need some help in managing your time.

1. We have been reading about polio and have learned that President
Roosevelt had the disease. Do you know the history of polio, where it
started, how it spread? At:

Polio" through the timeline. After you have learned some facts about the
disease, write 3 questions on the papers supplied. Make sure that you know
the answers.

Yesterday in class we talked about Alzheimer's Disease and some basic facts
about it. Today you are going to take a tour of the brain to see what happens
to it when a person suffers from the disease.

There are 16 slides divided into
"Brain Basics" and "Alzheimer's Disease and the Brain."
1. Go through the slides to make certain that you understand them. After you
are finished, you might want to review the more carefully. Then, write a
summary comparing a healthy brain to one that has the disease. DO NOT COPY, but
you can take notes on the main ideas. Your summary in your own words should be
about half a page typed. Write it in the Present Tense. Use Microsoft Word to
type your summary. Put your name on it and print it.
2. Imagine that you are Dr. Harper and Mrs. Slotkin's wife comes into the ER
instead of his son. Ask Mrs. Slotkin 10 questions about her husband's
Alzheimer's its history, and his recent behavior.

1. The first part of your assignment is to complete your summary. You will
be given 30 minutes. At 8:30, I am going to collect it.
2. You are going to watch a short video about a new procedure used for

You might have to listen a few times.
2. While you are listening, take notes. Try to keep your notes organized.
Use key words, symbols, abbreviations to help you.

What kind of learner are you? Is there a particular style of learning that
you prefer? In order to be successful, you should be aware of the kind of
learner that you are. In addition, once you learn your preference, you
should find out what methods will help you make learning easier.

Write a composition with the title, "My Favorite ..." You could write
about a favorite movie, book, sport, TV program, day of the week, or any other
appropriate topic. Be sure to include a variety of verbs in the Present
Time including especially the Present Perfect.

Complete your weekly schedule form. After you finish, look it over and
write a reflective journal that may or may not include any responses to the
following questions. After completing your schedule for a week, was there
anything that surprised you? How do you spend your free time? Do you
have any free time? Do you set aside enough time to complete all
assignments on time? Do you study at a time when you can concentrate, or
do you wait until late at night, or in some cases, early morning? Do you
get enough sleep? In what ways can you utilize your time more effectively?

suddenly... Continue the story. Give your narrative a title.
Be sure to include a variety of verbs in all of the Past Time including the
Simple Past, Past Continuous, Past Perfect, and Past Perfect Continuous.

Voice. Complete the handout. Find these examples from magazines,
novels, newspapers. You must use two different sources. Bring the

1.For Monday, you have to combine some of the information about Vanessa Holmes
and her personal experience with epilepsy. You can find the audio of Ms. Holmes

2. If you are interested in a short film about epilepsy, you will find it at:

The film shows several people afflicted with the disease and how their cultures
treat them. It also includes a short part of a person having a seizure, of a
"fit" as they define it and some of the precautions.
