Attendance:

Class will meet once a week for 14 weeks.  Attendance is an essential part of the class. Students are required to attend all classes and to participate in all class activities.  When a student is absent, he misses instruction, group work, and assignments.  If a student is absent during the semester, it is his responsibility to find out about missed assignments.  Excessive absences will seriously hinder your ability to pass the class.

Notebook and Journals:

All students are required to have a binder with filler paper.  All journal entries, class activities, and handouts must be kept in this binder.  Journals (or freewriting assignments) will be written every week.  Topics will be assigned and will generally coordinate with essays. All journals must be kept in the binder and written on filler paper or word processed.  Journals will be collected periodically, but they will neither be graded nor corrected.  All journals will be collected at the end of the semester and will be counted towards the final grade.

Assignments:
Homework will be given for every class meeting.  Please come to class prepared.  Homework will include essay drafts, responses to reading assignments, and computer activities.

Essays:

In this class there will be 4 major essays involving different rhetorical styles.  One of these papers will also include some research.  Essays will have either one or two drafts.  All papers must be word processed, handed in, and saved on a disk. The disk with all assignments will be collected at the end of the semester.  No papers which are hand-written will be accepted.  Any essay assignments which are handed in late will have its grade lowered.

Exams:

In this class there will be a final exam and short exams, but the emphasis will be on the essays.  Tests are ONLY given on the scheduled dates, and there are no make-ups.  Any student who misses the final exam will not pass the course.
