Time
In the future time, like both the present and past
time, there are four main verb tenses. They are:
1. Simple Future
2. Future Continuous
3. Future Perfect

Continuous
Simple Future:
The Simple future Tense shows an action that is going to happen in the future.
Both forms can be used for predictions, an action or event that you expect
to happen in the future. The “going to” form is used when there is an
intention or a planed action while the “will” form is always used to show a
promise, an unplanned action, or a modal.
There are 2 forms that can be used to show the Simple Future:
1. Be (Present Tense: am, is, are) + Going to + Verb(Base Form)
Example: I am going to speak with Pat later.
She is going to be in her office.
You are going to ask her a question.
The students are going to meet her.

Will + Verb (Base
Form)
Example:
I will speak with Pat later.
She will be in her office.
You will ask her a question.
The students
will meet her.
Simple Future:
Negative:
Use contractions whenever
possible.
1. Be (Present Tense: am, is, are) + Not + Going to +Verb (Base Form)
Example: I’m not going to speak with Pat.
She isn’t going to be in her office.
You aren’t going to ask her.
The
students aren’t going to meet her.
2. Will + Not (Won’t) + Verb (Base Form)
Example: I won’t speak with Pat.
She won’t be in her office.
You won’t ask her a question.
The students won’t go to meet her.
Simple Future Questions:
All
questions are introduced with a verb (helping)followed by the subject and a verb
(Base Form).
The word order is Verb + Subject + Verb.
Examples: Are you going to speak with Pat?
Will you speak with Pat?
Is she going to be in her office?
Will she be in her office?
Are the students going to meet her?
Will the students meet her?
Who is going to speak with her?
Who will speak with her?
Future Continuous:
We use the Future Continuous to show an action that is in progress in the future. Both forms of the Simple Future can be used.
1. Be (am, is are) + Going +To + Verb Be in the Base form + Verb + ing
2. Will + Be + Verb + ing
Examples:
Pat is going to be working in her office this afternoon.
Pat will be working in her office this afternoon.
My friend is going to be studying in the library tonight.
My friend will be studying in the library tonight.
I am going to be eating lunch at 1:00PM.
I will be eating lunch at 1:00PM.
Future Continuous Negative: Add NOT
Examples:
Pat isn’t going to be working in her office this afternoon.
Pat won’t be working in her office this afternoon.
Future Continuous Questions:
Like the simple future the correct word order is:Use Verb + Subject + Verb
Examples:
Is Pat going to be working in her office later?
Will Pat be working in her office later?
Future Perfect Tense:
Use the
Future Perfect Tense to show an action that happened
before another action in the future.
Form: Future Form + Have + Past Participle
Example:
By the time I get home tonight, I will have worked for 10 hours.
By 2008 my friend will have gotten married.
I will have already finished my work by the time you
get home.
Future Perfect Negative: Add NOT
Examples:
By the time I get home, I won’t have finished my work.
By 2008 my friend won’t have gotten married?
Future Perfect Questions:
Follow the same word order:
Will + Subject + Have + Past Participle
Examples:
Will you have finished your work by the time you get home?
By 2008 will your friend have gotten married?
Future Perfect Continuous:
To show an action in progress before another action in the future. Use this tense with for and since.
Form: Will + Have + Been + Verb + ing
Examples:
I will have been working for 3 hours when you get here.
By 2008 my friend will have been attending UCC for 4 years.
Future Perfect Continuous Negative: Add NOT
Examples:
I will not have been working for 3 hours when you get here.
My friend won’t have been attending UCC for 4 years when he graduates.

Perfect Continuous Questions:
Follow the following word order:
Won’t + Have + Been + Verb + ing
Examples:
Will you have been working for 3 hours when I get there?
Will your friend have been attending UCC for 4 years when he graduates?
