Attendance : it is your responsibility to keep up with the material in the course. You are responsible for your own life, your own successes and your own failures.
1. There will be a quiz every week, on Wednesday, usually worth ten points. If we have time for more than ten quizzes, I will keep your ten best quiz grades and drop the rest; this should total 100 points. The quiz grade will count as 20% of your final average. 2. There will be weekly hand-in homework assignments. These must be handed in on loose-leaf paper – no ragged edges ripped from notebooks. NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. The hand-in homework total will count as 20% of your final average. 3. There will be a midterm examination which will count as 30% of your final average. The date of the midterm is Friday, MARCH 9. 4. You must also take a cumulative final exam which will be scheduled by the College at the end of the semester in May, sometime between May 8 and May 14. The final exam will count as 30% of your final grade. (You do not take the Basic Skills Test until you complete MAT 016.) 5. There are NO makeups on the quizzes or on the midterm. You have enough advance notice on the date – do not schedule any doctor’s appointment then, do not volunteer to take someone to the airport, and keep your car in good working condition. Also absence from the final exam means an automatic F for the course. A grade of Incomplete can only be given in extreme medical cases. 6. Courtesy and manners are an important of being an adult and an educated person. If you have to leave class early, please have the courtesy to tell me this before class begins. I will assume anyone who gets up and leaves without explanation is dropping the course and will not be readmitted to class. 7. Please be on time for class. Problems may prevent you from arriving at the beginning of class occasionally; however, anyone who arrives late frequently will not be admitted to class. 8. Departmental Policy: NO LATE WITHDRAWALS in any Math class. The last date to withdraw from any course is March 16. 9. Departmental Policy: Beginning in Fall 1994, anyone who wants to take a Math course for the third time must successfully retake the prerequisite course before being allowed the third attempt. NO fourth attempts at any math course. Grades of F and W count as attempts. 10. This is a 3 credit, 3 hour class. It meets Mon, Wed, Fri 10:10 – 11:05 11. In addition to my office hours, tutoring for this course is also available in the Academic Learning Center in the Library. 12.
