COURSE CONTENT: This course is designed to familiarize the student with the TI-89 graphic calculator and Maple. This course meets every Monday and Wednesday beginning September 3rd through October 20th from 9:05-10:00 PM.
ATTENDANCE: It is not a good idea to miss too many classes. If you must miss a class, it is your responsibility to find out what was covered and to make up the work. If you are absent more than three times, you will earn an F in this course. If you are late for class by more than 10 minutes, you are considered absent for the class.
ASSIGNMENTS: You must complete both assignments satisfactorily (a grade of C (70%) or better) to pass this course. The first assignment, using the TI-89, will be completed during class on Wednesday, September 24th. The second assignment, using Maple, will be completed during class on Monday, October 20th.
GRADING: You will earn a grade of A if you are absent no more than three times, participate, and complete both assignments satisfactorily (a grade of C (70%) or better). You will earn an F if you are absent or late more than three times or do not complete both assignments satisfactorily and on-time. This is departmental policy.
OFFICE HOURS: My office is room N1-3 in Cranford.
WITHDRAWALS: You must withdraw before the withdrawal period ends, by October 28, 2008. I will not sign or authorize late withdrawals. This is a departmental policy. Do not take this responsibility lightly. You will not be able to withdraw after that date. If you withdraw from MAT 171 you should also withdraw from MAT 148, as they are to be taken simultaneously.
COURSE REPEATS: The following is departmental policy. "Including grades of F and W, any student who wants to take a Math course for the third time must successfully take (or retake) the prerequisite course immediately before the third attempt will be allowed. Absolutely no fourth attempts will be allowed."
CHEATING: PLEASE DON’T.

MATERIALS FOR CLASS: You are required to bring the following materials to each class: notebook, TI-89 graphic calculator, pencil, and an eraser.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES: No cell phones, beepers, palm pilots, or computers of any kind may be on during class time. All such devices must be turned off for the duration of class.
