Welcome To The Student Volunteer Organization

The Student Volunteer Organization was created to encourage and facilitate student participation in volunteer activities, assist in existing volunteer endeavors and foster positive community relations.  Group activities include: teams in walk-a-thons & bowl-a-thons, etc., special events, and relief efforts.  Individual opportunities exist in elder care, child-care, tutoring, homeless shelters, animal shelters, and a variety of other community programs.  As community needs and student interests change, so do SVO activities.  Opportunities for personal growth and career experience are provided for students committed to helping others.

Membership folders and sign-up sheets can be obtained at H-107.

Please complete the membership fact sheets and release and return them to Prof. Roemer as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. Be sure to include your social security number, as it is required by Student Activities. Please include an e-mail address; if you do not have one, you can establish an account at UCC at no cost.

Once you have joined this organization, you should make personal arrangements with the community organization(s) of your choice.  You can work out the schedule and other details on an individual basis.  Your participation in this organization is not limited to those contacts enclosed in this packet. If there is an organization with which you are associated that needs assistance, please bring it to our attention.   Please remember that once you make a commitment, people are counting on you.  Be responsible and polite in your activities.  Your efforts are needed and appreciated.

Special events come to our attention on a regular basis and ongoing needs change from time to time. Announcements are posted on the SVO bulletin board. Also be sure to check your e-mail or visit with an SVO advisor from time to time to receive updated information.

Verification slips for your participation should be completed per visit.  They may be returned to Prof. Roemer every two or three visits.  These forms are completed so we can keep track of active members and to monitor how well we are meeting community needs.

If you have any questions, contact Prof. Roemer at (908) 497-4385 or via email at croeme01@hawk.ucc.edu

You have chosen to enrich the lives of others and, in return, will be rewarded with both professional and personal growth. Welcome aboard!
